Chivas Extend Loan Contract Of Torres

Chivas USA have decided to extend the loan spell of Erick “Cubo” Torres. After announcing the decision, the club stated that it was clear for a very long time that they would retain the player by extending his loan spell. The 21-year-old will now stay at the club during the 2014 season, while the club also have the option to extend it by another year. Chivas USA club president Nelson Rodriguez stated that this is the three-year plan at the club that intends to make them much stronger. Chivas USA are not regarded as one of the strongest teams in the Western Conference, but the club are looking to change it.

Despite their poor form that sees them at the bottom of the table after 14 matches, Torres’ form has been a major boost for the team. The player has scored nine goals in just 14 matches this campaign. Without this goals, they would be even more adrift at the bottom of the table. Hence, it comes as a major role for the club that they have managed to extend the presence of the player. Rodriguez has stated that the decision to keep him was taken a long time ago, but it has now become made official since it would allow the player to take advantage of the World Cup break.

“We knew all along that we controlled the option to extend his loan through the end of this season and it’s always been our intention to exercise that option. We believe in a process to take action in an appropriate way. He’s an immense talent who’s aided by the fact that he’s a good-looking young man and plays hard. He has a great smile and he’s been endearing to all fans. We expect suitors from all over the world in the future,” said the president.

Beasley Looking For a Return To MLS

DaMarcus Beasley has been heavily linked with a return to the MLS in the last few months. The player has not quashed those rumours by suggesting that he is looking to leave Liga MX outfit Puebla in the summer. Beasley has been playing for the Liga MX outfit Puebla since 2011. However, he has been heavily linked with a return to MLS. The player that he will be needed to play in MLS in order to sustain his place in the World Cup 2014 squad. Beasley has been named in the provisional squad by manager Jurgen Klinsmann and it is heavily expected that he will be part of the final squad as well.

Beasley has been out of the national team picture until the start of 2013. This has been because of succession of injuries and competition for places. Since the return to the national team for the match against Costa Rica, he has not looked back. He has featured in seven World Cup qualifiers and was also part of the triumphant Gold cup run that the team had under Klinsmann. Being a veteran of the last three major world cups, it is highly likely that Klinsmann will take him to the World Cup 2014. His experience could prove vital, as they look to reach the knockout stages.

“I have not spoken to any MLS team, I don’t know where that’s coming from. It is true that I’m looking to leave Puebla, I will say that, but as far as MLS, as far as any other country, any other team, I have not been in contact with anyone. My objective is to make this team. I’m not worried about what my future is right now with my club situation. My first job is to defend. My first job is not to score goals, even though I was a midfielder most of my career,” said Beasley.

HACKWORTH FUTURE IN DOUBT

Philadelphia Union manager John Hackworth is in danger of losing his job if things do not improve quickly in the next few weeks. The club has made a poor start to the season and they are in danger of not even finishing in the playoff places if they endure the current poor run.

The club taken just eight points from 10 matches played this season. They are without a victory in the last five matches, while also taking just two points from this run. Hackworth has acknowledged that things could soon end for him at the club if results do not improve. Continue reading “HACKWORTH FUTURE IN DOUBT”

CHIVAS NEED MIDFIELDERS

Chivas USA decided to bring in Mauro Rosales as their new midfielder during the off-season. This has created a problem for manager Wilmer Cabrera, as this meant shipped out one of the defenders to make room in the squad. The manager has instead had to rely on midfielder Eric Avila playing as right back in this new season. He did the job admirably well in the opening game of the season, which ended in a 3-2 win over Chicago Fire. After struggling for form for most of the last season, this has been a good start by the team.

Cabrera has praised Avila by saying that he does not see a reason why the 26-year-old could go on and feature for the US national team as the main right back. Chivas USA had a lot of problems in terms of maintaining a stable starting line-up in 2013. The club had to go through different managers in recent seasons, but Avila has been a consistent player during this period. Cabrera says that it is primarily because he is one of the best professionals he has managed. Even though the 26-year-old has come in for a lot of praise, Cabrera says that he still has work to do in order to be better defensively.

“It’s a different role for me; way different than what I’ve played. But I have the same mindset of going forward, attacking and helping the team out. I sat down with the new coaches and discussed things. This is a good opportunity for me,” said Avila. “He’s very professional and has a lot of talent. He works hard and has an unbelievable engine. We see the possibility to develop there. If he can develop how we think he can, he’s a candidate for the position with the [US] national team,” said Carbrera.

CABRERA BACKS BAUTISTA

Chivas USA manager Wilmer Cabrera has stated that a January signing Bofo Bautista needs some time before he starts performing well for this team. Bautista was signed last January after he ended his disappointing spells with clubs like CD Guadalajara and Atlético San Luis in the last few years. Cabrera says that it is tough to expect the player to start performing immediately after he has just come into a league, which is highly physical. He expects the player to be slowly introduced to the tough world of MLS football.

After finishing bottom of the table in their respective conference, Chivas USA will be hoping for a much better 2014 season. The club begin the new season against Chicago Fire. Cabrera has mostly been using the player in substitute appearances. The 34-year-old said in his introductory press conference that he was highly motivated to restart his career in the MLS. Bautista is one of the experienced players in the Chivas USA squad and he has also played in the 2010 World Cup with the Mexican national team.

Torres has been performing well for Chivas last year, but the club are looking to compliment him with another player in the squad. Bautista could be that exactly, but he needs to settle according to the manager.

“He is going to be important for us. He’s going to be the one who dictates and tells us how ready he’s going to be and how fast he’s adapting to the league. We are trying to take care of him, not to force him and not to bring him to some kind of responsibility that we are burning him. This league is different and this is the first time he’s out of Mexico. It takes time. We don’t want him to feel that he has the responsibility to be the man,” Cabrera said of Bautista.

KREIS UNSURE

Real Salt Lake coach Jason Kreis has claimed that he does not know whether Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane will be fit for the match against them. LA Galaxy manager Bruce Arena ruled out the possibility of both these crucial players playing against Real Salt Lake, but Kreis has claimed that he doubts the fitness status of both these players. He expects both players to be in the lineup by the time the match kicks off. Kreis will have a lot of reasons to be especially worried about Robbie Keane because the former Tottenham striker has been quite brilliant against Real Salt Lake.

He joined the league back in 2011 and he has been able to score a lot of goals against Real Salt Lake. Kreis has said that need not be warned about Keane because they have seen in person the damage that can be done by the 32-year-old. Donovan has just returned from a four-month sabbatical, but he is still one of the best players in the league. Kreis has said that Real Salt Lake will be preparing for the match thinking that both Keane and Donovan will be playing. He has stressed the importance of limiting the space available to both these players in order to stop conceding goals.

“This is Bruce Arena we’re talking about. He is a good player, a very, very good player. He is one of those players that you have to always be mindful of where he is and try not to give him too much space to run at you. When he turns and can get a full head of steam running at you, that is when he is most dangerous. We will try to limit his space and limit his opportunities. I think we look forward to this challenge,” said Kreis.

NESTA RULED OUT

The former AC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta is expected to be out for the next few matches according to the manager of Montreal Impact, Marco Schällibaum. The manager has confirmed after the win over Toronto FC that the player has suffered an injury to the adductor. As a result, he had to be substituted from the match. The 36-year-old defender joined the MLS club after being released from his contract at AC Milan. He is widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the world, but injuries have robbed his importance with the games in recent years.

Fans have been left to wonder whether the pitch of Montreal Impact is a reason for the injury suffered by their star player after just three games into the season. Nesta made his debut for Montreal Impact in the match against New York Red Bulls, and he was widely judged to be the man of the match. He has been a vital cog in the Montréal team that has managed three consecutive victories to go top of the table. Nesta, though, has said that he does not know the reason for this injury. He has said that he has been playing on the turf for the last two matches.

“We have other solutions and we’ll wait for a diagnosis first. Maybe it’s not that bad. Maybe he’ll even be able to play next Saturday [against the New York Red Bulls]. But we still have enough quality in the squad that we’ll make the necessary changes,\” said the Montréal manager. “I don’t know. I trained for one month on turf. I played two games on turf. I don’t know,\” said the defender after the news about his injury broke out. The team will be playing against New York Red Bulls in the next match at home.
